Edie, a composer with the ability to see sound as colour, uses her rare condition to gain the reputation as a musical prodigy.

Despite the mistrust from critics, audiences, and her players alike, she’s given the opportunity to debut her first symphony. But on the most important night of her life, something goes horribly wrong.

The concept for The Debut was submitted to the RBC Emerging Filmmaker Pitch Contest at Gimli Film Festival by Director Allegra Chiarella and Producer Solmund MacPherson.

Solmund was accepted to pitch as one of the top five entries, and the project was selected by a panel of judges to receive funding and a premiere at the 2017 Gimli Film Festival.

To embrace the grant’s mandate of supporting emerging artists, the crew of “The Debut,” includes many students who have been paired with experienced mentors.

The original score will be composed by Morgan Thickson, a U of M student, who will be guided by Genie award winning Glenn Buhr. The animation team includes local artists Rhayne Vermette and Elijah White, with consultation provided by Oscar-nominated animator Cordell Barker.
